Napoleon is a huge figure who dominates the historical landscape, eliciting praise and vilification in equal measure. The contradictions are everywhere while celebrated as one of the most successful battlefield commanders, he is best known for his most significant defeat; while his legal code put in place the principle of equality that forms the basis of many modern legal systems, he is often described as the precursor to a host of modern dictators who had no regard for concerns of human rights; the inhabitant of royal palaces was at the same time never happier than when he was dining with his men on a muddy battlefield.
This very short history examines the contradictions that created one of history’s most iconic figures, covering the period from Napoleon’s birth to his coronation as Emperor of France.
The Very Short History series gives the reader a clear, concise, and very short, account of the people and events that have shaped world history. Each book provides an entertaining and engaging narrative, allowing the reader to master the subject in the shortest time possible.

Napoleon The Irresistible Rise of a Corsican Adventurer Very Short History Book 10 eBook Tristan Clark Reviews
I love history, happy for these short concise versions.
All three of these books on Napoleon and his wars are well worth the money.
My expectations may have been too high but this was like reading a high level editorial on Napoleon's rise to fame. Although the book was a short story it lacked any concrete substance and I was left at the end wondering what I had learned about him if anything.
This is a nice concise read, and provided me with a quick refresh on Napolean. There are numerous typos and dead-end sentences that could use closer scrutiny, but I'm really just observing, not complaining.
A nice overview. It reads quick and doesn't leave out anything crucial. I chose a four star rating because I think the book succeeds in doing what it was designed for. I would recommend this title to anyone new to the subject. It is not intimidating and does not assume the reader has much prior knowledge. I am excited to read the next two volumes that cover the end of Napoleon's story.
I know only a few people enjoy history and I am one of those few. I always find it interesting to know the history of a person or a place and just knowing bits and pieces of information about them. This book details Napoleon Bonaparte’s life from his birth to his rise as France’s emperor. It might sound really boring, but the author did a great job at making it short, nevertheless still very informative.
This book shows a quick snapshot of Napoleon's life, told like a story. The author highlights all the major life events ans lets you know what happened without too many details which is easier said than done. It's an enjoyable, educational easy read.
